Do your palms get all sweaty whenever the thought of going to the dentist comes to mind? Are you missing appointments because of anxiety? Simply put, if you fear the dentist or simply want the most comfortable dental experience of your life, then sedation dentistry is for you.

So what exactly is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is a realistic alternative to traditional dental care for those fearful of visiting the dentist, or those who want to speed up the process of having multiple, complex procedures completed. Dentists who offer this option use sedative medications to help make you more comfortable so the dentist and his team can work more effectively, accomplishing more in less time- all with total comfort and little worry to you, the patient.

Are You a Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?

Many people have some sort of anxiety when confronted with a needle, or when they are around a doctor or dentist. Even the dreaded root canal can be completed comfortably and quickly.

  • Hate Noises, Smells and Tastes Associated with Dental Care
  • Are Afraid & Embarrassed About Their Teeth
  • When you see someone with a gorgeous smile it make you envious
  • You want to put an END to your feelings of anxiety or fear about the dentist and finally get that Million Dollar Smile you have always wanted!

Who is NOT a candidate for sedation dentistry?

A Patient who has any type of medical condition should notify their dentist about the condition BEFORE a sedation dentistry procedure. Your dentist will find out if you are a candidate for sedation by taking an in-depth look at your medical history and the medications (including over-the-counter & natural supplements) that you are currently taking. Your dentist will be the one to tell you if you should or should not be sedated.

Here are the TOP TEN benefits of sedation dentistry:

1. It ENDS dental fears and eliminates the worry of painful dental procedures. If you have a serious dental phobia, simply driving by the dentists office in your car can make your stomach uneasy. Many others often find it hard to sleep the night before an appointment. This is why sedation dental options are perfect for people with mild dental phobias, or even more serious phobias that keep them from any dental care at all. Through sedation you will experience complete freedom from the pain and discomfort associated with dental care.

2. Improves overall oral health for those with dental phobias. Many people who fear the dentist have often been neglecting their oral health for years. Through sedation dentistry these formerly fearful patients can routinely receive the care they need without risking cavities and gum disease that comes when proper care is ignored.

3. You’ll gain more self-confidence. People who avoid dental care for far too long often end up with smiles that embarrass them, resulting in low self-esteem and hidden smiles. Patients who finally get the dental care they need they often will look younger, healthier and more attractive. This can improve relationships, personal and business, plus it creates more confidence. For the first time in years they may begin to enjoy smiling, laughing, and talking with others.

4. Allows you to finally achieve that perfect smile you have always wanted. Before sedation dentistry those with dental phobia assumed they would never be able to get that dream smile, simply because they could imagine setting in the dental chair for any type of procedure. They just hoped their fear of dental care would fade. Now, through sedation dentistry these formerly fearful patients find a new optimism about the way they look and even overall outlook on life. Sedation is changing lives every day!

5. Decreased risk of serious health issues such as heart disease and diabetes. Those who neglect regular dental care leave themselves open to cavities and gum disease. Research has shown that gum disease creates a higher risk for heart disease, heart attacks and even strokes. Additionally, those with Diabetes need to pay particular care to their oral heath as gum disease can cause serious complications.

6. Lessens time in dental chair. If you require complex dental care that could mean hours in the dentists chair and multiple visits. For those with dental phobias this simply isn’t an option. When you choose sedation your procedure time can be cut back significantly, saving you hours of your precious time….not to mention your peace of mind.

7. Most people will qualify for sedation dentistry. Regardless if your 18 or 80, sedation is a possibility for anyone who seeks a more comfortable, stress-free dental experience. At your FREE  Consultation Dr. Paul or Dr. Matt Schwedfeger will screen you with a full medical history. From this information he can determine which type of sedation is right for you (note: as with any type of sedation, there are certain health issues that may prevent qualification. Make you appointment today to see if you qualify).

8. You can now live a longer, healthier life because you’ll be able to eat better, even prevent stomach problems! When you have painful teeth eating crunchy vegetables and corn on the cob is simply unthinkable. When you get your teeth back in a healthy state even the hardest apple can be back on the menu! You’ll be able to eat all the foods you like. Also, since your chewing will be improved, your digestion will be even better as well!

9. There is a type of sedation to meet every level of need. Some patients have a mild fear of visiting the dentist and other have such a severe fear that even talking about the dentist can make their hands go cold and wet from anxiety. There are conscious sedation options that simply make you forget about the procedure. Many never remember a thing even though they were conscious the entire treatment. Whatever your need I would be happy to explain these options to you at your Consultation.

10. You’ll actually look forward to the dentist when you have sedation available to you. No more hiding from dental care and no more cancelled appointments out of fear. With sedation the most routine check-up, all the way to complex procedures will be worry-free. You’ll actually look forward to your visits because the anxiety created when you feared the pain and discomfort will be gone. Without the stress you’ll be all smiles and we look forward to seeing your smiling face.

Make ALL of your dental worries and fears a memory of the past!
