The Latest Breakthroughs in Cosmetic Dentistry
Perhaps one of the areas in dentistry which have seen a lot of advancements in recent years is cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry is concerned mainly in enhancing the look of a person’s teeth, mouth, and smile. The procedures undertaken in cosmetic dentistry are done both for aesthetic and restorative purposes. Some of the most common cosmetic dentistry services involve the following:
Teeth Whitening
A bright smile is impossible without a clean and white set of teeth. Teeth whitening procedures are performed in order to whiten stained or yellowed teeth. Certain types of teeth bleaching agents are used during each procedure, depending on the patient’s lifestyle and level of teeth sensitivity. There are also teeth whitening procedures which you can do at home, although the instructions are oftentimes prescribed by your trusted dentist well in advance.
Veneers and Lumineers
Veneers and lumineers are an ideal solutions for stained or broken teeth, as well as in treating tooth gaps and serious teeth discoloration. Porcelain veneers are known to be more reliable than bonding and are stain resistant as well. The veneer bonds completely into the tooth structure so that the natural look and feel of your teeth are restored.
Lumineers on the other hand are thin porcelain veneers. Since they are thinner than regular veneers, they can preserve your tooth better while giving it a more beautiful and natural-looking appearance. Lumineers are used to treat a wide range of dental problems including broken teeth, crooked teeth, tooth gaps, and teeth stains, among many others.
Digital X-Rays
Dr. Paul and Dr. Matt Schwedfeger and their team at Village Smiles are absolutely amazed at their enhanced ability to diagnose dental disease with digital X-rays. Dental caries (tooth decay) can be diagnosed earlier with digital technology than with conventional film-based dental X-rays. Therefore, if you need a filling to repair the damage from decay, the earlier diagnosis usually means a smaller restoration (filling) than before. Another major advantage of digital dental X-rays is the amount of radiation needed to take the image is significantly reduced. Safety has always remained a commitment at Village Smiles. Patients can now clearly see their X-rays on large computer monitors in each dental room. We can also greatly magnify a digital X-ray image to better explain dental problems to our patients.
Electric Handpieces
Dental electric handpieces (drills) are a major advancement over conventional air drills. The first thing most patients notice is that the electric drill is much quieter than the high-pitched shrill produced by traditional dental drills. The dentists that use electric handpieces find the dental bur produces a more accurate cut with less vibration transmitted to the tooth. Therefore, allowing us to produce great dental restorations.
Lasers
At Village Smiles, our ongoing commitment is to provide our patients with the best possible care, and we’re pleased to offer the benefits of the dental laser. Since 1990, dental lasers have been used to perform millions of procedures in the United States and more than 20 other countries throughout the world. The Pulsemaster Nd:YAG Laser is very precise and allows us to treat gum disease earlier than before. During periodontal (gum) treatment, the Nd:YAG is exact, with virtually no bleeding. This means we can see the involved tissue more clearly, you won’t need stitches afterward, and healing is accelerated. While some people may still need anesthetic during laser gum treatment, many forego it altogether. This laser is also used to reshape the gums to make the cosmetic work look perfect.
Intraoral Camera
Early diagnosis is the key to more conservative and less costly treatment. Our intraoral camera is a small camera wand about the size of a pen. It enables us to look at a tooth and magnify the tooth 40 times its size. Beginning decay and early tooth cracks appear on a video monitor right in front of you. For the first time, you can actually see your tooth problems and better understand the treatment necessary.
Surgical Telescopes
Dr. Paul and Dr. Matt Schwedfeger wear special ultra-magnified glasses that allow them to treat your dental problems with better precision.
Digital Photography and Dentistry
The digital camera has been a wonderful communication tool in our office. Dr. Paul and Dr. Matt Schwedfeger can show their patients before and after photographs immediately after their treatment is complete. These instant pictures are very helpful in communicating with your dental insurance company and improving the porcelain crowns and veneers made in the dental laboratory.
You always made us feel at home with the best dental care in the world to boot!
