Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry (Dr. Paul)
Do you want to know more about our main dentist? You probably already know that he has advanced degrees, including the Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. Here is some information on his educational background:
Dr. Paul Schwedfeger has a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Albany and a Biomedical Engineering degree from Catholic University and the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C. After having achieved those degrees, he went on to study for and then receive his DDS from the Baltimore College of Dentistry, which is also known as the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He spent his residency at Strong Memorial Hospital and pursued courses in cosmetic dentistry taught by leading cosmetic dentists in the US.
The Pursuit of Further Education
The residency is not the end of Dr. Paul’s quest for more knowledge about dentistry. He went on to pursue the Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD). He was able to turn in all the requirements needed for the said fellowship in 1988, eight years after he started his practice as a licensed dentist. Achieving the FAGD is already quite an accomplishment as less than 10% of American dentists so far have been able to receive the FAGD. Dr. Paul did not stop there, however. He moved on to another challenge, which was the pursuit of the Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD). The MAGD was even tougher to achieve. Only 3 out of 500 dentists in his area were able to receive an MAGD. While the MAGD is undoubtedly the peak of his education and practice, Dr. Paul still went through several continuing or postgraduate dental courses, each with a focus that will help him enhance his dentistry practice.
The Value of Degrees and Awards Such as the MAGD
When choosing a dentist to care for your teeth, you must look for someone who has both education and experience. So, Dr. Paul did the right thing when he pursued higher education up to the MAGD. A dentist who goes through several years of postgraduate education in dentistry is more likely to also have a lot of experience. The achievement of the FAGD is already testament to Dr. Paul’s continuous quest to improve his dental practice. The MAGD should be an even better example of his desire to serve his patients well.
Utilizing Education in the Dentistry Practice
A dentist who is constantly looking for opportunities to expand his education is also exposed to the newer technologies that may have emerged years after he had become a dentist. So, it is good to know that your dentist has gone through postgraduate education. Such a dentist is open to changes in his profession. He will be able to utilize new skills to improve his service. It is not enough to know that a dentist is backed up by years of experience if that same dentist is still using the same archaic methods that he has been using when he has first started out. Education improves and updates skills.
The Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry is proof of a dentist’s steadfast quest for excellence in both education and actual practice. Patients will be in good hands if they have chosen a dentist with an MAGD.
